We usually get the RI Reds for our laying hens but this year, when I went to buy chicks, I couldn’t find any. Instead I picked up some Black Australorps and some Leghorns. I have to say that they are the most chicken chickens I have ever owned, but MAN! Those Leghorns put out BIG, BEAUTIFUL, not to mention tasty, eggs every day! Little birds, but big eggs. The Australorps are probably 30% bigger but produce smaller and fewer eggs. Kind of funny like that. BA are the brown and the L are the white.
We got these 7 this morning. 9 hens, 7 eggs. That’s been pretty normal for us.
